What is it about?

A short explanation of how patients with chronic heart failure might experience burden of treatment. The concept of burden of treatment is explained as the work of living with and managing a chronic illness. Specific features of chronic heart failure are explored in relation to burden of treatment. Finally we propose of how symptoms in chronic heart failure might influence their perceived burden of treatment which could be contributing to the high rates of perceived self-care failures.

Why is it important?

This proposal has lead to exploration of the concept of burden of treatment in patients with chronic heart failure. The ideas presented here are being explored through a Qualitative Literature Synthesis and a Sequential Explanatory Mixed Methods study.

Perspectives

I hope this article encourages people who work with people with chronic illness to truly consider how complicated the tasks that they are encouraged to complete are. Learning about Burden of Treatment has changed how I view patients and my interactions with them. Seeing this published is exciting as this is the first publication connected to my PhD.
