What is it about?

Mothers with premature babies acceptance to practice Kangaroo Mother Care. The study has shown that mothers are willing to keep their small babies in skin to skin position on their chest.

Why is it important?

This practice helps to keep small babies warm, breast feed and contributes to brain development because the mother is able to touch,cuddle and talk to the small baby. The mother is also emotionally less stressed because she is with her baby 24/7 ,unlike in the incubator where she may be allowed to feed and see the baby every 3 hours.

Perspectives

This publication will inform policy to improve and Scale-up the implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care in Zambia
