What is it about?

Birth preparedness is a strategy which has been found effective in increasing utilization of skilled birth attendance, thus eventually prevent maternal mortality occurring due to delays. Pregnancy complications occur without warning. Knowledge and practice of birth preparedness among pregnant women and her community ensures readiness during labour and delivery or when complications occur.

Why is it important?

Most causes of maternal mortality occur from preventable causes. Birth preparedness is important since it ensures readiness of both the woman and her family for labour and childbirth.
