What is it about?

Veterinary uniforms are our first line of defence in infection control. Yet we often overlook how best to ensure they are as clean as possible. This article looks at where to wear uniforms, how to transport them and how to use in house or domestic laundry to ensure cleanliness.

Why is it important?

Vet Nurse uniforms play two roles. They are a barrier for infection control and promote the professional image of vet nurses. Wearing them in the appropriate setting is key to ensuring the public safety continued trust in us. Ensuring basic standards of cleanliness is key to complying with infection control protocols. Both aspects of our uniform mean we need to take responsibility for caring for them. our image as a profession is important.

Perspectives

After seeing numerous social media posts about vet nurses complaining about being mistaken for supermarket staff while shopping in their uniforms I wanted to research and demonstrate why this was not appropriate. We are a 'young' profession but that is no excuse for low standards. If we want people to treat us like professionals we need to look and act like professionals. This begins with a clean uniform worn only in appropriate areas.
