Pharmacological management of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease in children and neonates including drug options, contraindications and outcomes. The pharmacological properties of each drug are described and there are accompanying calculation skills questions to support continued professional development.

Why is it important?

This is a continued professional development series most appropriate for neonatal and paediatric clinical practitioner who are independent prescribers but it useful for any nurse or midwife for revalidation purposes. Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease in children is a very common occurrence and whilst this resolves as the GI system matures it is important to offer appropriate support and reassurance to the parents.

Perspectives

This is a short continued development article to support practitioners to test their knowledge and calculations skills and provide evidence for annual appraisal and revalidation.
