How to have meaningful conversations about suicide from the perspective of the person in distress.

Why is it important?

It offers an alternative approach to initiating conversations about suicide. The Meeting Space Framework challenges students to think about personal responses to suicide and to consider their intention and approach. Conversations require the creation of a certain 'space' and an intention to 'meet' the person where they are.

Authoring this article was a pleasure. Findings from research remind us that people in distress want a human response, to be with another person, and to be reminded in that connection that there is a way forward together. This raises the importance of spirituality and meaningful connection, for me, the very essence of mental health nursing.
