What is it about?

We wanted to understand the experiences of midwives who completed a Return to Midwifery Practice Programme. We also wanted to ascertain if midwives returned to clinical practice after they had completed the 12-week programme.

Why is it important?

There is a chronic shortage of midwives in the workforce. It is vital to understand what encourages midwives to return to practice. It is also essential for maternity service providers to understand the issues that may help or hinder midwives to stay in practice after they complete a refresher programme.

Perspectives

In current climate of health care professionals returning to practice due to the Covid_19 pandemic, our study offers recommendations for how we may encourage returned HCPs to remain in practice in the medium to long-term.
