This theoretical paper explains how "Patent Trolls" might benefit markets for intellectual property. Specifically, it argues that Patent Assertion Entities are better at monetizing patents that overlap and are used in a broad range of products. In some ways, they act like the Walmart of such patents, and provide wide distribution and choice for manufacturers that want to incorporate such patents in their products.
