What is it about?

The literature argues on ambiguous impacts of different types of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) subsidies on farm technical efficiency. We find that the CAP subsidies decrease the technical efficiency of the Hungarian wine farms, while economic farm size increase.

Why is it important?

The research provides reliable findings for policy recommendations regarding using wine farm resources and CAP subsidies. An additional opportunity for wine farm managers can be seen in their managerial and entrepreneurial efforts to increase economic farm size which can increase their technical efficiency.

Perspectives

One of the issues for future research is a comparative analysis between countries in the region, especially between neighboring countries with similar geographical conditions for wine grape production.
