What is it about?

This paper is about a new type of antibiotic that kills superbugs. It outlines how it was discovered in soils in Tropics; Central Kenya to be exact.Then, it demonstrates how it destroys today's most widespread superbug. Altogether, it sheds light on a new antibiotic for drug makers to further to an on-the-shelf medicine, giving a blow to the current superbug crisis.

Why is it important?

Today there is a problem of superbugs- disease causing bacteria that are immune to current medicines. This paper introduces a completely new antibiotic that destroys superbugs It further highlight the first steps to developing a medicine out of it. Althogther, it offers lots of hope to the current superbug crisis

Perspectives

For me, this is a paper of hope. We currently live in a world where antibiotic resistant bacteria "superbugs" are on the verge of taking us to an apocalyptic age. Here, we describe a new class of antibiotics that completely extinguishes that threat by demonstrating it destructive force against the world's most dominant superbug: methicillin-resistant S. aureus. Further, it provides clear direction for the next steps along the journey of making a medicine out of it. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in current global affairs and not just life scientists
