What is it about?

We developed a smartphone based (aka wearable) app that monitors mobility (how much people move). We wanted to know how and when they move, so we tried to identify the context of their movements by combining video in addition to the standard sensors.

Why is it important?

Accelerometers have previously been used to identify when people move. In addition to that, we want to know how people are moving, where, why etc ("context"). The introduction of video capabilities (along with standard accelerometer recordings) into a mobility monitoring device is unique. Also unique is that we tried to make the whole thing work with low data-rate sensors (some algorithms had to be tweaked). And it actually did work!
