What is it about?

This is a data analysis study about methane emissions in triple rice cropping in the Mekong River Delta.

Why is it important?

Triple rice cropping in the Mekong River Delta is a very intensive rice production of three crops within 300 days. That causes an extremely high methane emission by incorporating the harvested rice straw without decomposing. We found a method of reducing methane by analyzing the emission pattern.

Perspectives

Decomposing rice straw in paddy surface water generates no methane. In addition, that is an ideal condition for biological nitrogen fixation. The reduction of methane is also can be a reduction of nitrogen fertilizer. There is a big opportunity to change rice cultivation in the tropics.
