What is it about?

People enjoy music in concert halls. This paper describes a mathematical model that explains how balcony fronts give additional warmth to music.

Why is it important?

The existing ray-tracing methods have a number of limitations. One of the limitations is that these ray-tracing methods are not able to characterize back-scattering at lower frequencies - that plays a significant role in sound quality of the auditorium.

Perspectives

Experiences show that human cognitive abilities are superior than computer simulations. This work shows that we shall continually refine our computer simulation technologies so that more realistic modelling can be achieved.
