What is it about?

Induced earthquakes at Groningen have been linked to production of gas from the Rotliegend reservoir. A fully elastic wave equation methodology has been developed to more accurately locate earthquakes and estimate the event focal mechanisms.

Why is it important?

Accurately locating earthquakes at Groningen is important to provide seismological constraints on geomechanical models of the field. These models help to provide further constraints on the ground motion prediction which is an important element in de-risking the damage from earthquake activity.
