What is it about?

Changes in friction coefficient impact seismic records. Fluid injection induces eismicity in the form of fault re-activations if these energy releases are large enough to create slip at the boundaries. Presence of organic-rich material introduces easier slip and therefore in some occasions, shale reservoir related operations may introduce slip and associated induced seismicity. We have investigated the changes involved sue to various fluids and organic rich-material through experimental research to show that these changes are important to consider to minimize any geohazard occurrence.

Government organizations, oil and gas companies and public are all concern about the induced seismicity potential of the unconventional resource operations. Research studies are critical in this area to educate public and better understand the factors influencing the slides such that we can be able to minimize/eliminate such incidents and improve unconventional operational safety for unlocking these valuable resources with confidence for sustainable energy for foreseeable future.
