What is it about?

The proposed parameterization of near-field fault displacement considers both in-plane geometry and flanking structures. It allows for multi-modal displacement typically observed in segmented faults. The parameters are calibrated to nearby observations using an inverse method.

Why is it important?

This paper show the practical value of a kinematic model to reduce interpolation artifacts in sparse data settings, or in the presence of imaging noise / ambiguities.

Perspectives

The proposed model opens interesting ways to look at structural uncertainties related to fault displacement.
