What is it about?

We perform acoustic (only P-wave, no shear) wave propagation modeling in anisotropic media. Our approach is efficient in terms of computation time and memory thanks to the special methodology. Also, our method can be combined with classical numerical techniques such as finite differences.

Why is it important?

Wave propagation modeling has a broad application field: Geophysical modeling for seismic imaging purposes. The central part of the forward modeling – the fundamental process used in many fields, e.g. in Reverse Time Migration (oil & gas). Multi-disciplinary approach – imaging the propagation of waves in the human body muscles.

Perspectives

My view for future publications is the following: improving the spatial method of solving the pseudo-differential (expressed only in the wavenumber domain) wave equation in the space-time domain by using optimal techniques.
