What is it about?

Include topography of free-surfaces on land into the modeling of seismic waves. Anisotropy is accounted for in this process.

Why is it important?

It is important in order to improve seismic imaging of any subsurface of the earth. Free-surface topography is taken into account in the seismic data instead of attempted discarded, as is or has been the standard procedure in imaging.

Perspectives

The article gives an overview of all aspects necessary in order to perform seismic modeling to include free-surface topography into elastic modeling up to an advanced degree of anisotropy, i.e. tilted orthorhombic symmetries.
