What is it about?

A3Mark: The first standard, publicly available, benchmark for seismic attributes. Current attributes include discontinuity, dip angle, dip azimuth, curvature.

Why is it important?

In the highly competitive world of seismic attributes, there are plentiful seismic attributes, implementing intrinsically the same functionality, while having very different results even when fed with exactly the same input data. Each claims to be the "best". However, seismic attribute characterization effort is largely qualitative and subjective. In this paper, an objective, robust and reliable scientific process for functionally comparing similar attributes is presented.

Perspectives

This is my first paper published in Journal of Geophysics as a computer scientist. Interestingly, in the field of computer vision, web services have been built to set a standard through benchmarking of the algorithms, such as stereo reconstruction. And I have successfully introduced the benchmarking into the field of oil and gas industry for comparing functionally similar seismic attributes.
