What is it about?

Accurate nonlinear least squares inversion of TEM data requires routine settings of parameters like initial models, regularization term and number of iterations. However, we have developed an approximate TEM search engine for real-time for possible intervention and remediation design in environmental, groundwater contamination around industrial area.

Why is it important?

Incorporation of computer technology of search engine for analyzing TEM data should inspire real-time imaging tools in other aspects of geophysics for quick routine investigations to enhance the flexibility in designing or redesigning of cost and life-saving field plans. This project was inspired from its application to real-time prediction of earthquakes.

Perspectives

I envisage that this article will make geophysicists see the benefits of integrating computing technology with geophysical methodology. Interpretation of TEM data in real-time will be the least gain from such matrimony, improving on the accuracy in real-time will be a worthy research to embark on.
