What is it about?
Thin, hard calcite-cemented beds can traverse caprock and reservoir units and disturb seismic amplitudes. The variation of seismic amplitudes with source-receiver offset can be used to predict the pore fluid of a reservoir. If these amplitude measurements are perturbed by calcite-cemented beds, the pore-fluid classification will be more uncertain. In this paper, the uncertainty is quantified using a Monte Carlo simulation and seismic modeling.

Why is it important?
An uncertainty estimation of pore-fluid classification, which takes calcite-cemented beds into account, helps to better assess risks of drilling a dry hole in hydrocarbon exploration.
Perspectives
While I worked on this study, interest was signaled from colleagues and clients. The discussion with practitioners on the topic was inspiring.
