What is it about?

Based on the propagation theory of elastic waves in frozen poroelastic media and elastic media, a theoretical model of saturated frozen soil and elastic solid bedrock is established. The saturated frozen soil is lying on an elastic solid bedrock and is modeled as a porous material containing a three-phase medium that contains two solids (soil skeleton and ice particles) and a compressible viscous fluid.

Why is it important?

The previous studies on the propagation characteristics of elastic waves in saturated-unsaturated soils are extended to saturated permafrost sites to make a theoretical contribution to the propagation and damage mechanism of seismic waves in permafrost sites in alpine regions.

Perspectives

It was a great pleasure to write this article as it had co-authors with whom I have a long history of collaboration. This article involves a lot of interesting mathematical derivations that yield analytical solutions.
