What is it about?

Thomsen-type parameters are the basic parameters for attentive anisotropic media. Constant-Q (frequency-independent Q) transversely isotropic (TI) models can be used to describe wave attenuation in finely layered media. Focusing on basic theoretical problem, this article investigate the Thomsen and Thomsen-type parameters for constant-Q TI media, obtain their analytic expressions as function of frequency, and demonstrate the frequency dependence of the attenuation coefficients.

Why is it important?

Thomsen parameters are the basic parameters for seismic anisotropy. For the first time, we obtain the analytic expressions for Thomsen and Thomsen-type parameters for constant-Q transverse isotropy. The expressions for these parameters clearly indicate their variation with frequency. Our results open a possibility of using these parameters to analytically describe wave attenuation for constant-Q TI media.
