What is it about?
We introduce a new generation sea ice thickness mapping system. It's suspended from a helicopter and features plenty of additional sensors that traditional systems lacked that enable more accurate ice thickness data.

Why is it important?
Traditional systems are fairly accurate for level ice but can be strongly biased over pressure ridges and under favourable flight conditions. Accurate in site ice thickness estimates are hard to get and important for satellite data and climate model validations, the new generation approach get us closer to accurate data.
