What is it about?

This paper presents the protocol for a large, pragmatic trial testing the efficacy of my transplant education outreach program, Explore Transplant at Home with low-income Black and White dialysis patients in Missouri.

Why is it important?

Noting previous research that found that dialysis providers have limited time and ability to educate their patients about transplant, this trial examines if the patient groups least likely to pursue transplant can increase their transplant knowledge and pursuit when provided with mailed video and print transplant education, with or without telephonic coaching from a transplant educator. Results of this trial will be published in 2017. An extension of this program is already underway at Kaiser Permanente Southern California.
