What is it about?

The aim of this work is to examine the uncertainties involved in measuring residual strain and their dependence on different parameters in self-pierce-riveted (SPR) joints while using the neutron diffraction technique. An optimum instrument condition for residual stress measurement in SPR joints by neutron diffraction method was developed in this study.

Why is it important?

This is pioneering work to measure residual stress in rivets of relatively small dimensions using neutron diffraction. It is necesary to develop an optimul instrument condistion for measuring residual stress in self-pierce-rivet (SPR) by neutron diffraction technique.
