What is it about?

Sources published between 1968 and 2017 were consulted in order to identify what researchers in the field were saying about research priorities. Priorities were identified related to topics to be studied and methods to be used. The importance of planning for the sharing of findings and improving practice was highlighted

Why is it important?

The review draws together the thoughts of numerous researchers to determine the direction of future research in relation to family bereavement in the context of organ donation. This consolidation provides a foundation upon which research can be planned so that it contributes to new understanding and practice improvement.

Perspectives

As a PhD student, preparing this article helped to shape my understanding of the field and the gaps that I will aim to address during my project. While conducting a review of family bereavement I had noticed that many researchers commented on future directions and suggestions at the end of their articles, and I noticed that some articles were well-cited while others had received few citations even though they contained valuable insights. Wondering about how those observations could be drawn into my project contributed to interesting ways of viewing research priorities.
