What is it about?
This article provides an analysis of the current state of civics and citizenship education in Australia, and why it is failing Australian students. It calls on educators to adopt a more maximal, activist approach to citizenship education.

Why is it important?
Having educated citizens is vital for Australia and, indeed, any democracy. Schools have an important role to play in developed educated citizens, so it is important that we adopt the most effective models of citizenship education.
