The paper illustrates how school leaders play an important role in encouraging and supporting PLC, by providing a strategic direction, providing structural support including time, and encouraging the involvement of teacher leaders.

Why is it important?

There has been a lot of interest and effort in setting up PLC for teachers to learn and grow. However, there has been little research on how school leaders can support and sustain PLC. This study addresses that gap and looks at the roles that school leaders, key personnel and senior teachers play in the set up and implementation of PLC.
