Why is it important?
As biomarkers become more pervasive, it's important to review progress and current limitations. It's also important to understand where biomarkers have had an impact to determine where they may have an impact in the future.
Perspectives
As an engineer, it's easy to appreciate the importance of biomarkers as they are intrinsically linked to an understanding of disease and health. However, in the clinic, biomarkers are still maturing due to the multi-faceted nature of healthcare and patients' lives. In this article, we explored some of these facets and how they affect the utility of biomarkers for improving health.
