Based on field research conducted between 2005 and 2018, this article compares the Spanish-language mediascapes in Detroit and Los Angeles, discusses the importance of Spanish-language television to providing a sense of place, and compares the reception of SLTV in these cities.

This article underscores the importance of considering the urban sphere to understanding the social and cultural dynamics of Spanish-language television. It also focuses on Detroit, which is rarely considered as a destination for Spanish-language television, and whose Latinx population has historically been overlooked in scholarship on U.S. Latinxs.
