What is it about?

Arthrodesis surgery is the joining of two bones to treat arthritis or deformity. It is very common in foot and ankle surgery. However, certain patient risk factors can lead to non-healing of the bones including a gap, smoking, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and others. In this report, we used a bone graft that contained a type of stem cell (multipotent adult progenitor cell) in patients with these risk factors. We demonstrated excellent union rates in these patients with compromised healing potential.
