Why is it important?

It provides a double-check on the validity of self-assessed program impact on quality and safety. Peer review program and related organizational factors like the quality of leadership explained up to 18% of the between hospital variation across 32 measures. The study adds credibility to the best practices first identified in 2007 that were validated in this independent cohort. Adoption of best practices could have a major impact on quality and safety of care.

Perspectives

It is remarkable that any effect could be identified. I hope that physician and hospital leaders will take notice and adopt the best practices.
