What is it about?
This study explores how team-level job demands (like workload) and resources (like autonomy) interact with individual experiences to influence employee health and motivation. We analyzed data from over 1,100 employees across 172 teams to understand the impact of both shared and personal work conditions.

Why is it important?
Most research looks at stress and motivation from an individual perspective. But people work in teams—where comparisons with others and shared experiences shape how we feel about our jobs. Understanding these dynamics can help organizations better target interventions and create healthier, more motivating work environments.
Perspectives
As a work and organizational psychologist, I’ve long been interested in how social contexts shape resilience and strain at work. This study is part of a broader effort to move beyond individual-centered models and develop a more socially informed understanding of workplace well-being—one that reflects the everyday reality of teamwork.
