What is it about?

The paper is about survival strategies used by residents of informal settlements in the city of Kolkata to escape eviction due to large infrastructure projects. It shows how, by using these methods, the informal settlers not only managed to hold on to their homes but, quite ironically, ended up foiling the very project that threatened them with eviction.

Perspectives

I have researched and written so far about the survival strategies and coping mechanisms of the urban poor. In future I intend to focus more on the methods and tactics used by the urban super rich and their associates in the cities of the third world.
