What is it about?

Procalcitonin (PCT) is not elevated after uncomplicated surgical tracheostomy in critically ill patients. The PCT changes could predict septic complications more accurately than the CRP changes after tracheostomy.

Perspectives

Procalcitonin (PCT) is widely used as a biomarker of sepsis. Tracheostomy is frequently performed in ICU where many septic patients are treated. This study will extends the available knowledge on PCT after tracheotomy.
