What is it about?

Many around the world are in need but we don't make charitable donations to support everyone. We explore some of the biases we may hold when deciding which distant strangers should receive our charitable donations in times of international humanitarian crises.

Why is it important?

At a time of increased strife in the world, displaced persons and refugees, victims of natural disasters, and growing inequalities, we need to come together to help those in need. Charitable organizations have tight fundraising budgets and their campaigns need to be as effective as possible. By exploring the biases that donors may hold, we hope this research helps improve the efficiency of international humanitarian aid campaigns.

Perspectives

I always want my work to lead to positive social change and have an impact. By studying the context of international humanitarian aid, I feel that I can use my research skills and interest to make a difference. This was also a great opportunity to explore an area that has been overlooked. It was also a chance to combine models, theories, and history from a number of different business disciplines.
