What is it about?

A formula was created in which the FiO2 is corrected to a paO2 of 150 mmHg. The Oxygen Transfer of the Membrane is calculated. These 2 Points are plotted on a graph which indicates the Oxygen Transfer Performance.

Why is it important?

It is used clinically at Point-of-care. For the first time a System is created in which Membrane Oxygenators may be tested on a one to one Basis.

Perspectives

I call it "Taking it to the Clinical level." Medical products go under strict tests and when they reach the market it is important that Feedback is returned whether positive or negative. This helps the Quality and safety of Patient care. The new method that can be easily implemented and will now open up new horizons to how Membrane oxygenators are tested and how this Information is relied to the clinician.
