What is it about?
It is simply no longer viable to think of Chinese culture primarily in terms of "traditional" or Confucian. The reality of Chinese culture and identity is much more complex, fragmented, and even contradictory. This article draws attention to recent work from a wide range of fields, including anthropology to social psychology, and calls for greater attention to the role of pop culture in understanding contemporary Chinese culture.
