What is it about?

This study evaluates the difference between the earnings of students who complete an applied baccalaureate degree compared to students who earn an associate degree. The analysis identifies if differences vary depending on the type of program students participated in and if student characteristics play a role as well.

Why is it important?

While there are numerous studies of the link between post-secondary education and economic outcomes, this is the first study that evaluates the impact of the applied baccalaureate degree. This type of degree builds upon a technical associate degree, so knowing if the additional two years of college makes a difference in the economic return for students is important for colleges to know. The findings showed the results vary by type of program, so this can help students best plan their entire academic path more effectively. This information can also help colleges plan the types of programs they offer.
