What is it about?

Some 20 years after Lakoff & Johnson's Metaphors We Live By, it turned out to be useful to write a textbook about conceptual metaphor theory (CMT), to help a new generation of metaphor scholars. Kovecses, one of the veterans of CMT took this job upon him.

Why is it important?

Conceptual Metaphor Theory changed the idea about metaphor as a nice tropical flourish to use in poetry and speeches to an essential part of our thinking.

It is to be noted that this review is of the first edition. In 2010 a revised edition appeared.
