What is it about?

Normally, we think that our expectations matter for our later outcomes in life. Of course, when we expect a lot of ourselves, it follows that we'll probably go farther also. In this study, I talk not about one's personal expectation but the expectation of those around a student. And I find that this "collective expectation" in urban schools can help protect one's later achievement or prevent it, depending on one's socioeconomic conditions.
