Why is it important?

To our knowledge this is the first comprehensive study to quantify the Journal the pattern and extent of rural transformation witnessed in the decade of faster economic growth in India. The aims of the study were to (a) investigate rural transformation in India during the 2001–2011 period, and (b) discuss the way forward for achieving coordinated urban–rural development.

The study provides justification for the further region specific case studies to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of rural transformation programmes.
