Why is it important?

Our research findings show that there are a significant correlation between depression and depression literacy among Korean Americans. This is important in providing community education to increase depression literacy which may ultimately lead to decrease the symptoms of depression by seeking treatment and leading to early intervention.

Perspectives

This study was highly important for me as a PI because I have been tracking down with my long standing research on "depression among Korean Americans" and related issues such as depression prevalence, mental health disparity, and now depression literacy (DL). I hope that this article stimulates other researchers in terms of developing culture specific DL instrument for their future study to measure more accurate DL assessment and ultimately develop a community education program to educate the targeted population.
