What is it about?
Employees often have crucial insights on ways to improve how firms operate. The perfect situation is that leaders can endorse all suggestions brought to them. But, what if a leader cannot endorse a voiced suggestion of a follower? The leader may not have the time or resources. This study explores how leaders can respond in saying "no" to an idea and still encourage future voice.

Why is it important?
Leaders are pulled in many directions and often have to consider competing demands in deciding how to spend their valuable time and resources. This means that leaders may need to say "no" to good suggestions. How does one do this and still encourage future suggestions? Our research shows that being respectful in response or providing a thorough explanation for the decision is crucial to future voice.
