The role of the senses in experiences of asthma and sport

What is it about?
The sociology of the senses is a relatively recent sociological addition and provides an interesting new dimension to studies of sport and the sporting body. Here, the authors examine ‘somatic work’ - the ways in which we go about making sense of our senses within a socio-cultural framework. The article contributes to a developing sociological-phenomenological body of literature by addressing the lived experience of asthma in non-élite sports participants. Here we examine the role of hearing, via ‘auditory attunement’ and ‘auditory work’, in sporting embodiment.
