What is it about?

The paper discusses a possibility of a special UAV dynamic soaring within wake vortex of an airliner. The goal of the idea is to extract enough energy from a wake vortex to allow the UAV follow an airliner without any own propulsion. The paper is focused to a climb because it is most difficult regime for the flight formation of an airliner and the UAV.

The paper brings results in the idea of the airliner-UAV flight formation. The presented results provide insight into energy balance and controllability of the unmanned aerial vehicle flying in an airliner wake vortex.

Perspectives

The paper revealed possibilities of flight formation of an airliner followed by a special UAV. Promising results give a chance to extend results and continue in the research in this field of interest.
