What is it about?

This study explores how dhikr (remembrance of God) and prayer can help patients recover after appendectomy surgery by reducing pain and stabilizing vital signs like pulse and respiratory rates. Involving 88 patients, the research compares those who practiced dhikr and prayer with those who received standard care. Findings suggest that incorporating these spiritual practices significantly aids in pain relief and enhances vital signs within the first two hours post-surgery, highlighting the importance of spiritual care in medical recovery.

Why is it important?

Our study uniquely demonstrates the tangible benefits of combining dhikr and prayer with conventional medical care for appendectomy patients. It fills a gap in research regarding the impact of spiritual practices on physical recovery outcomes. In an era increasingly recognizing holistic health approaches, these findings could encourage the integration of spiritual care in hospitals, potentially leading to more comprehensive and patient-centered care models.

Perspectives

Being part of this research has been profoundly enriching, emphasizing the deep connection between spiritual well-being and physical health. Observing firsthand the positive effects of dhikr and prayer on patients' recovery was a powerful reminder of the holistic nature of healing. This work underlines the critical role of spiritual care in healthcare settings, advocating for a more compassionate and inclusive approach to patient recovery that respects diverse cultural and religious practices.
