Why is it important?

News use expands horizons, increases empathy and softens attitudes by exposing users to other cultures. Political party identity (party ID, confirmation bias, tribalism) was more predictive of selective exposure to news and immigration attitudes than anything else, but news use significantly softened attitudes on race and immigration
