What is it about?
A response to Karl Rahner and Charles Taylor, this essay uses William Desmond and Rene Girard to trace two no "ways" of return to reawaken a sense of God.

Why is it important?
The reality of suffering and despair can make God's reality appear untenable. Rather than shying away from despair's shadow, this essay invites us to submit to it. If Rahner's insight is correct, if whatever can be taken from one is not God, then despair's purgation may serve to open up a new porosity to God.
Perspectives
This is an essay intended to bring William Desmond and Rene Girard into a constructive theological conversation.
